Comprehensive Pharmacy Services Expands Telepharmacy Solutions

CPS Telepharmacy’s New Innovation Center Built to Meet Growing Technology Demand

Memphis, TN – Comprehensive Pharmacy Services (CPS) announced today that it has enhanced and expanded its telepharmacy division to meet the evolving and future needs of hospitals, health systems and retail pharmacies. To support their industry-leading growth and expanded set of services, CPS has relocated its National Telepharmacy Center to a larger footprint in Naperville, Illinois. CPS Telepharmacy will be hiring additional professional level pharmacists and support staff at the new facility.

As healthcare shifts from an inpatient to an outpatient service model and specialty medications trend toward eclipsing traditional drugs, the larger Telepharmacy facility is positioned to help clients meet the growing demand for telepharmacy services and provide patients with direct access to pharmacists through advancing technologies. CPS Telepharmacy solutions include Remote order entry verificati

  • Remote order entry verification
    • Staff augmentation so pharmacists can drive clinical outcomes
    • Support for antimicrobial stewardship
    • Support for opioid stewardship
  • Clinical call center services
    • Medication therapy management
    • Medication reconciliation
    • Patient education
    • Specialty pharmacy follow up and consultation
    • Prior authorization programs

CPS Telepharmacy monitors 3 million medication events a year. The pharmacists, using proprietary technology in conjunction with the hospitals electronic health record (EHR), flag wrong dose or wrong drug and provide real-time data on patients, resulting in fewer adverse drug events, readmissions and emergency room visits.  CPS Telepharmacy functions as a seamless extension of the client’s pharmacy staff, adapting to the specific needs of each facility. Because CPS Telepharmacy team members have experience working in hospital, clinic and retail pharmacy settings, they understand what pharmacies need in order to operate efficiently and effectively.

“In the era of value-based care where healthcare providers are being paid for quality not quantity, our model is built around a team of pharmacy experts, working together from a central location,” said Joseph Calomo, Division President for CPS Telepharmacy. “Our pharmacists also have training in lean six-sigma and other operational systems, which allows us to assist our clients in becoming more efficient and effective throughout their operation, not just in processing medication orders.”

CPS Telepharmacy’s Health Care Innovation Center delivers state-of-the-art technology that fuels CPS Telepharmacy’s expertise and touches operations, clinical, regulatory and IT. In response to client feedback, the  Health Care Innovation Center develops advanced solutions such as a portal where nurses on the front lines of patient care can communicate with a pharmacist in real time. This portal will empower nurses to deliver better care faster.

“When clients partner with CPS Telepharmacy, they discover that we not only help them improve patient care but also positively impact their overall operation,” said Calvin Johnson (CJ), CEO of CPS. “As we’ve done throughout our company’s nearly 50 year history, we’ll continue to innovate our processes and technology so our clients are ready for the demands of healthcare today and where healthcare will be in the future.”
