On Monday, November 19, 2018, a gunman entered Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago, killing a police officer, a doctor and a pharmacy resident, Dayna Less, who worked for us at Comprehensive Pharmacy Services (CPS) within the Mercy Hospital pharmacy.
At just 25 years old, Dayna was a valued member of the CPS family. A graduate of Purdue University, Dayna was an exceptional human being who came from a strong, loving family. She truly had the world in front of her and was engaged to her high school sweetheart. She had a driving purpose in life to help other people, serving a pharmacy rotation in Eldoret, Western Kenya, and dedicating herself to multiple charitable organizations. We know that she loved Mercy Hospital and planned to sign on for a second year of residency there.
CPS is dispatching an Employee Assistance Program crisis team to provide on-the-ground support to Mercy Hospital & Medical Center pharmacy staff. This tragic and unthinkable loss not only directly impacts the pharmacy team at Mercy, but Dayna’s death is being felt across the CPS family, which is over 2,200 strong. She will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dayna, her family, friends and coworkers.
